Trademark Services

Wakalat assists local businesses and international companies seeking trademark protection in Libya including trademark, service mark and collective mark.To file trademark application in Libya, applicants are required to submit the following documents:

  1. An original Power of Attorney duly notarized and signed by the trademark owner, and legalized by the Libyan Consulate in the applicant’s home country.
  2. An original certificate of incorporation, or original extract from the Commercial Register legalized by the Libyan Consulate.
  3. A certified original of the priority document legalized by the Libyan Consulate, if claimed.
  4. A copy of the passport or ID of the person authorized to sign the Power of Attorney.
  5. A pledge from the owner of the mark that the goods conform to Libyan specifications and standards.
  6. A picture of the product or products of the trademark.
  7. Product name.
  8. An Arabic translation is required for a mark that comprises non-Arabic characters.
  9. A sound mark should be represented by submitting an audio file reproducing the sound.
  10. Translation of all documents (legal power of attorney and commercial register) into Arabic.
  11. It is necessary to mention the date of signing the power of attorney.
  12. Translating the name of the applicant for filing the mark verbally into Arabic (if possible)

Patent Services

We support inventors and businesses in securing legal protection for their innovations.Inventors are required to submit the following documents to file patent application in Libya:

  1. A Power of Attorney signed, stamped by the applicant company and legalized up to the Libyan Consulate in the applicant home country.

  2. A copy of the extract of the entry of the applicant company in the commercial register, or a copy of the Certificate of Incorporation, if the applicant is a company or a corporate body duly notarized and legalized up to the Libyan Consulate of the applicant home country.

  3. A deed of assignment from the inventor(s) if not employed by the applicant company duly legalized up to the Libyan Consulate of the applicant home country.

  4.  If the inventor(s) is employed by the applicant company, a certificate of employment duly signed and stamped by the applicant company and legalized by the Libyan Consulate in the applicant home country will be sufficient instead of the deed of assignment.

  5. The name, nationality, address and profession or nature of business of the applicant and the inventor(s).

  6. Two copies of the specification and a summary of the invention in Arabic.

  7. Four sets of the formal drawings; one set on ordinary paper with all reference numerals and three sets on strong white paper without any reference numerals or letters for inserting Arabic numerals.

  8. A certified copy of the priority document for a convention application.

Domain Name Protection

To file domain name application, applicants are required to submit the following documents:

  1.  An application form which can be submitted by mail, email or fax.

  2. A letter requesting the domain name registration. It should be on official letterhead and the original is submitted by mail

Industrial Design Protection

To file industrial design application, applicants are required to submit the following documents:

  1. A Power of Attorney signed, stamped by the applicant company and legalized up to the Libyan Consulate in the applicant home country.

  2.  A copy of the extract of the entry of the applicant company in the commercial register, or a copy of the Certificate of Incorporation, if the applicant is a company or a corporate body duly notarized and legalized up to the Libyan Consulate of the applicant home country.

  3. A deed of assignment from the inventor(s), if not employed by the applicant duly legalized up to the Libyan Consulate of the applicant home country.
